Special notes
The energy produced by ESWT results in the disruption of calcification/fibrosis
Calcification/fibrosis nearly always present with chronic inflammation
There in no effect on healthy tissue
Pain Management - The treatment has an effect on nerves. Release on endorphins (natural pain killers)
Healing - thought to speed up healing by increasing blood circulation and increasing metabolism
90% of patients will feel worse 24 hours after treatment
No anti inflammatory medication should be taken during treatment
some patient's may develop a haematoma (bruise) post treatment
There are contra-indications to treatment
No anaesthesia is required

Capillary fragility - patient's who bruise easily
Patients who are on anti-coagulant therapy
Patients with Osteoporosis
Patients who have received a cortico-steroid injection less than 6 weeks before treament with RSWT is to commence
