How do Foot Orthoses work?
Foot Orthoses are an interface between your feet and the ground. They modify the load and force that is applied to your limbs, aiming to offload tissues which are overly stressed and therefore painful. Foot Orthoses help to correct biomechanical foot issues such as problems with how you walk, stand or run.
Can you help me with hard skin & ingrowing toenails?
Regretfully not. Northernhay Clinic and 3DFootprint specialise in Musculoskeletal Podiatry practice – the treatment of soft tissue injuries and orthopaedic conditions.
Why are Custom Foot Orthoses better for me than over the counter ones?
Different treatments approaches work for different people. Custom Foot Orthoses are designed and engineered to your individual foot. They optimise alignment, comfort and function. Custom Foot Orthoses are tailored to you, your feet and your specific symptoms.
Do I have to buy new shoes to fit my Orthoses?
Generally not, though this varies from person to person. Our aim is to provide you with ample advice on appropriate footwear choices for your daily wear and activities.
I need Shockwave Therapy. Can you tell me more about it?
During Shockwave Therapy, a high-intensity sound wave interacts with the tissues of the body. This leads to a cascade of beneficial effects such as neo-vascularisation ingrowth, reversal of chronic inflammation, stimulation of collagen and dissolution of calcium build-up. Stimulation of these biological mechanisms creates an optimal healing environment. As the injured area is returned to normal, functionality is restored and pain is relieved.
Is Shockwave Therapy painful?
Shockwave Therapy has to be somewhat uncomfortable to achieve the best results. Some people may find it uncomfortable, whereas others tolerate it easily.
How long do Custom Foot Orthoses last?
Your Foot Orthoses are a personal, custom engineered product. They will not last forever as the material needs to be comfortable for your use.
To ensure that you continue to enjoy the benefits of using your Orthoses they should be renewed on average every 3 to 4 years.
Some patients with certain Podiatric issues will need to renew their Orthoses more regularly. We will advise on an individual basis.
